BigArtTO featuring “The Advantages of Tender Loving Care” by Laura Kay Keeling

Originally presented as part of Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival

Generously Supported by Castlepoint Numa

With Special Thanks to Metrolinx

Tuesday September 28 - Saturday October 2, 7:15 pm – 10:15 pm nightly.

Examining aspects of reciprocal care, Laura Kay Keeling seeks to understand how people form connections with each other and with nature, and how they capture and cherish memories and moments in time. In thinking through these concepts, the artist’s practice has shifted to include not only found images but also plants and flowers that she has grown herself or foraged from neighbours’ garden clippings. First hosted as a virtual space as part of Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival 2021, the project is evocative of a naturalistic outdoor landscape. “The Advantages of Tender Loving Care” features the first artworks in Keeling’s new series of moving images and collages that merge sourced imagery with scanned floral elements.

Laura Kay Keeling is a Toronto-based artist whose work encompasses 35mm photography, collage and installation projects. Her work explores how we form connections with our communities and each other, exploring / unpacking emotions through the creation of new artwork as well as examining ideas related to the natural world. She is also interested in exploring themes related to the internet, social media and the effect on our everyday lives. Laura has always been drawn to extreme environments and is driven to explore the connection between art and nature.
