Description

stuck between an archive and an aesthetic, 2019 39' 16", HD, colour  is a new experimental video essay that mines lost and forgotten voices reverberating inside the institution. Matharu uses event documentation from discarded videotapes as a starting point to explore what is missing from the archive. Remixing this found material that travels outside the museum walls, witnessing significant uprisings and returning back inside the institution where she asks; what exactly has or has not changed in the often-misunderstood area of “diversity programming?" Pamila Matharu approaches contemporary art from the position of critical pedagogy and using an interdisciplinary and intersectional feminist lens, her work culminates in a broad range of forms including: installation art, social practice, and experimental media art.
