Description

Curators Maria Hupfield and Mikinaak Migwans have invited eight artists to each develop a design for the hoardings that protect the trees on Hart House Circle during a major construction and renewal of the University of Toronto’s downtown campus. The Tree Protection Zone (TPZ) hoardings celebrate the trees, the buried waterway (Taddle Creek) that remains there under the soil, and the community centred here. The TPZ will remain in place in preparation for the creation of an Indigenous garden and ceremonial site on the Hart House Commons. The project is organized by the Art Museum in collaboration with Hart House, and is sponsored by the Indigenous Initiatives Office, Facilities and Planning of the University of Toronto, and the City of Toronto.
