The workshop is located in the Lower Level of Yorkdale Mall, in the Art Starts studio. Locate Old Navy within the Mall and take the elevator across from it down to 'LL'. You'll find the Art Starts studio to the right and through the glass doors.

About the instructor, Asha Emmanuel

Toronto born and raised, Asha Emmanuel began her career in the beauty and arts industry over 15 years ago. As a young child to proud Dominican parents Asha has always had an interest and keen eye for arts and creative expression but found her passion for make up during her time spent as a professional dancer.

After receiving her accounting degree from York University, she moved forward with her creative interests to secure her certification in Professional Make-up Artistry from Centennial College in 2007. Wasting no time to pursue her passion, she dove straight into the industry to successfully work for several clients within film, television, music, and print. Notable clients included Grammy nominated artists and winners such as, Spice, Sean Paul, Bennie Man as well as artists, Teedra Moses and Patrice Roberts and Director X.

As a proud representative of the Caribbean community, and proud masquerader since the age of 2, Asha is a recognized artist in the Toronto Carnival industry having worked with prominent mas bands including Saldenah Mas and Toronto Revellers. Her work has been featured in several Toronto Carnival print and television campaigns seen on CP24, CTV, The Toronto Star as well as a number of other publications.

Not only recognized for her make-up artistry within the Toronto Carnival industry, Asha has also worked as a Mas Producer and Section Leader for nearly 10 years for carnivals worldwide including Toronto, Miami and Trinidad. Her experience, work and performance has led her to be named the lead Makeup Artist and costume producer for Suga Cayne Mas, Toronto’s premier boutique mas band in 2022.

Asha is excited to continue her work within the industry combining her love of art, creativity and community and is looking forward to the road ahead.
